DOMAIN × FRAMEWORK
The same name answers two different questions.
Health & Vitality appears in both the BRTLS Fatherhood Domains and the BRTLS Framework. That is intentional.
HEALTH & VITALITY — DOMAIN
It describes where we're looking:
Your physical and mental health, sleep, energy, stress, recovery and functioning within everyday life.
Its question is:
Do I have the capacity to show up?
HEALTH & VITALITY — FRAMEWORK
It describes what may deserve attention or development:
How you support enough sustainable physical, cognitive and emotional functioning to remain able to participate in the life that matters.
Its question is:
What helps me remain able to show up?
For example:
“I've been exhausted every evening for the last month.”
belongs naturally within the Health & Vitality Domain.
Exploring whether your current way of living sustainably supports the capacity you need brings the Health & Vitality Framework pillar into the picture.
The Domain helps locate the experience. The Framework helps explore what it may ask from you.
ONE LIFE, NOT SEVEN
Capacity moves through the rest of your life.
Health & Vitality is one of seven Fatherhood Domains:
Self · Partner · Children · Health & Vitality · Work · Home · Community
Its relationships with the others run both ways.
SELF
Low capacity can leave little room for personal interests, exercise, friends or simply doing something for yourself.
And losing those things may affect how restored you feel.
PARTNER
Fatigue and stress can influence conversation, affection, intimacy and what two people have available for each other.
A supportive relationship can also reduce what one person has to carry alone.
CHILDREN
Your available energy, attention and patience can shape how ordinary parenting moments feel.
And children can ask very different amounts from your capacity at different stages.
WORK
Work can consume physical, cognitive and emotional energy.
And low capacity can make work itself more difficult.
HOME
Household organisation can either reduce friction or create a constant stream of additional demands.
COMMUNITY
Friends, family and wider relationships can require energy. But they can also provide support, belonging and restoration.
Health affects the rest of life. The rest of life affects health.
